What is a stainless steel shot abrasive?

Perfect for tasks that require significant cutting or reshaping work, stainless steel shot abrasive is a high-performance type of abrasive material. This is used to ‘blast’ the surface of your desired material to prepare it for future treatment

Shot blasting involves the material in question being propelled at high speed towards the product being treated. This can be deployed in a device as heavy duty as an automatic wheel blast machine or handheld air blast systems.

This stainless steel shot is ideal for those working with non-ferrous products or more robust pieces that require a higher grade of treatment to ensure they are truly fit for purpose.

What can stainless steel shot abrasive be used for?

As stainless steel is a hard wearing abrasive material, it’s perfect for deployment in sectors where the material in question is equally hard to treat. This makes it ideal for die cast products and materials such as zinc and aluminium that are durable but need additional care to properly clean or repair.

This is particularly effective within the automotive industry, where the highest standards of surface preparation are required. Failing to do so will lead to a poor quality product, disappointed customers and loss of reputation. This makes choosing a hard wearing abrasive essential when it truly matters most.

The durability of the metal also makes it suitable for pre-coating tasks – something that’s crucial in the transportation and construction sectors. It can also play a helpful role when it comes to dealing with brass and stainless steel forgings, allowing you to achieve the finish you require without sacrificing quality or control.

It can also be used as an alternative to glass bead blasting abrasives and for aluminium rims sandblasting and painting.

What are the benefits of stainless steel shot abrasive?

Using our AMACHROME product carries a number of benefits, some of which include:

  • High performance: Choosing a stainless steel metal reduces wastage and maximises effectiveness.
  • Cost Effectiveness: Selecting the right manufacturer and grade effects the total cost of the blasting process, not just the price of the abrasive.
  • Less dangerous than finer materials: The slower breakdown rate stainless steel shot abrasive eliminates the risk posed by high levels of fine dust from other types of material – ensuring that you and your team operate in a healthier environment.
  • Rust-Removal: Selecting a stainless steel material is prefect for removing rust from your surfaces and ensuring they are properly pre-treated for powder coatings or other uses you may have in mind for them.

In addition, at Ervin we will be able to supply follow up support – giving you guidance about the right material, process optimisation and approach to take for your project – ensuring the highest standards are maintained at all times.
