Overview

EVC is especially dedicated to very high standards of surface preparation on metallic parts. They offer surface finishing, grinding, blasting, quality control and final packaging with over 40 employees in three facilities. The core of their services is the customization of the workflows and processes to the needs of our customers. The first component to be blasted was a part of the B6-Gearbox from Getrag. Nowadays, EVC has a throughput of 20 million parts per year, working for many famous suppliers of the automotive industry.

Challenge

Today E.V.C. Metal GmbH manufactures successfully for major automotive and mechanical engineering companies, and finds itself constantly adapting to any new challenge to be able to produce high quality with low prices. The newest invest is a hanger type shot blast machine that works with a stainless steel shot. To stay competitive E.V.C. need to both reduce cost and improve quality.

Ervin produces stainless steel shots, and offered to run some blast trials for E.V.C. at our Sprockhövel plant. The results were very positive, with the class leading chrome-nickel shot AMACAST, allowing a better cleaning performance, shorter cycle times and consumption savings of approx. 20%.

Result

The excellent results obtained in the blast trials were confirmed during a controlled trial under normal production conditions. The stainless steel shot used in the hanger type shot blast machine has been replaced by Ervin AMACAST, and the foreseen savings have been confirmed. The lifetime of the Ervin product is more than 20% higher, and the quality of the blasted surfaces significantly better. The reason is the unique production process of the Ervin AMACAST stainless steel shot. AMACAST is atomised in a controlled atmosphere in a dedicated plant. All the parameters of the operation (atmosphere content, flow, speed, size, cooling cycle, shape, etc…) are fully computerised. Ervin also introduced the high performance chrome alternative AMACHROME, which has helped optimise cost savings even further.
