Fundiciones del Estanda is a global supplier of cast steel parts from their foundry into the rail, mining and cement industries. Based in Beasain, in the north of Spain, they have a 70 year history selling to many of the leading companies in these sectors. They routinely blast to desand and descale parts after heat treatment and finishing.
We achieved abrasive and energy savings with Ervin abrasive.
Working in close collaboration with the sales and technical team at Ervin, Fundiciones del Estanda wanted to reduce consumption of abrasive and reduce blasting time per work piece, without any reduction in the quality of the blasted parts.

A trial was agreed switching from a competitor S660 shot to Amamix 16, containing MG Grit. The Ervin Total Cost of Blasting (TCB) projection forecasted a potential energy saving of 7% and a reduction in abrasive consumption of 15%, delivering a combined annual saving of over €20,000. The trial was run on a Pangborn Chorro Cometa hook blasting machine with three turbines each operating at 30kW. The test was conducted during an extended period of over 1,000 blasting hours to provide reliable data on abrasive consumption and the blasted parts were fully inspected through the trial.
Amamix 16 quickly demonstrated a significant difference in blasting performance, which allowed Fundiciones del Estanda to reduce the onload amps by 12% with no change in the cleaning performance or cycle times. In addition, a 17% reduction in abrasive consumption was achieved, surpassing the estimated improvements for both key measures.
