Key Benefits

An abrasive operating mix contaminated with oil and grease can not only increase operating costs, but can decrease productivity and coating performance on the blasted work piece. Ervin have combined the knowledge of over 100 years of metallic abrasive manufacturing and supporting shot blasting applications to introduce AMAPURE – a mineral additive to clean your metallic abrasive.

  • Grease and oil removed
  • Improved coating adhesion and corrosion resistance
  • Optimum waste removal for balanced operating mix
  • Reduced machine wear
  • Improved filter performance
  • Reduced risk of fire
  • Reduced need for further processes e.g. washing

Unwanted oil and grease can enter the blasting system through many sources, often via contaminated work pieces. Once oil is in the system it will contaminate the abrasive operating mix, which in turn will spread this to all work pieces. This can reduce cleanliness and brightness of the blasted parts and the suitability of the surface prior to coating, potentially leading to early failure. Another aspect of an oily operating mix is that particles stick together, leading to blocked filters which reduces the cleaning efficiency of the air wash separator and filtration system. A poorly separated operating mix will lead to an increase in fine sizes, which can cause reduced cleaning efficiency, incorrect surface profile, increased wear and ultimately higher operating costs. If oily waste enters the filter system, there is also the increased risk of fire, as well as reduced filter life.

Indications that your operating mix needs purifying are: excessive dust on blasted surface; poor separation leading to fine operating mix and stuck particles; poor surface tension or water tests results on your work pieces and operating mix; early coating failure; poor filter performance. Amapure solves these problems by binding with the oil and grease, and is then being removed from the operating mix at the airwash separator, purifying the shot blasting system. Blasting efficiency and results return to their optimum levels, with work pieces clean and bright, and costs can be kept to a minimum. Filter life is improved, and fire risks reduced with removal of oil and grease. Amapure can either be used as a regular addition to the machine, or for one-time cleaning of a contaminated operating mix. Combine with Ervin abrasive, to give an ideal blasting solution.
