Overview

HF-Czechforge s.r.o. in Cheb, Czechia manufacture a wide range of products for passenger, commercial and special vehicles all over the world.  For many years, the company has purchased Amasteel S390 manufactured by Ervin through Prima Steel, Ervin’s distributor in Czechia for their blasting operations.

“For the most difficult jobs, blasting used to take 90 minutes, but now it takes 35 minutes.”

Petr Matoušek
Production Manager, HF-Czechforge s.r.o.

Challenge

Working in close collaboration with Prima Steel s.r.o., who have been providing on-site technical support for many years, the company wanted to increase the throughput of their blasting operation by reducing the blasting time per work piece, without any reduction in the quality of the blasted parts.

Solution

The switch to Amamix, using Amasteel shot and grit has allowed us to increase blasting throughput by over 100% and reduced our cost per blasted part.  I would recommend companies blasting with shot to speak to Ervin and their distributors about a trial with Amamix.”

Petr Matoušek
Production Manager, HF-Czechforge s.r.o.

Prima Steel recommended a trial using a mix of Amasteel shot and grit of the same particle size to improve the speed of cleaning.  Hammerwerk agreed that the test should take place from May to August 2025 on one blasting device, on both their normal work pieces and also more difficult parts to test the impact of the mixed abrasive. The Ervin TCB (Total Cost of Blasting) App predicted savings of at least €89,000 per annum.  Regular technical inspections of the device and continuous adjustment of the basic parameters were routinely performed, in order to utilise the advantages of this abrasive.

Result

Amamix quickly demonstrated a significant difference in blasting performance, which allowed Hammerwerk Czechforge to reduce the blasting time by over 50%.  The blasting time for normal parts has been reduced from 45 minutes to 20 minutes, while the blasting time on the more difficult jobs has dropped from 90 minutes to 35 minutes.

This means that throughput can be increased by well over 100%, increasing output and significantly reducing the blasting cost per workpiece.

After the test, the benefits of the newly-used material were evaluated and since the end of September, the Amamix abrasive has been used on both blasting devices.

Amasteel abrasives are supplied by Ervin and sold into the Czech market by Prima Steel s.r.o.
